Jane and Prudence (Book): Pym, Barbara: Midpoint BooksThis early novel by Barbara Pym captures the charm and folly of English middle-class life. The two title characters share a devoted friendship based on memories of Oxford school days, poetry and their neighbors' private affairs- all discussed over leisurely lunches. And they share a common goal: finding a suitable mate for Prudence. The narrative of Jane and Prudence is that Jane is determined to find a suitor for her younger friend, Prudence. They met while Prudence was a student at the same Oxford college which Jane had attended and then subsequently taught English. Unlike Jane Austen, 4/5(49).

Jane and Prudence unsurprisingly deals with two Englishwomen named Jane and Prudence. (As a result, I was singing "Dear Prudence" over the three or four days where I was reading this.) Jane is a minister's wife who is a bit older than Prudence; the two met when 4/5(26).   Book Club: Jane and Prudence by Barbara Pym by dontreadtoofast on Ma Anticipation was intense for this offering (despite the hideous cover given to the reprint), as Pym was revered by both Larkin and Jilly Cooper – the bookends of many a reader’s very existence.
